  1. Open the downloaded .dmg and drag Dorothy into Applications.
  2. Open Dorothy. macOS will say it cannot verify the app. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll to the message about Dorothy, and choose Open Anyway. (On macOS 14 and earlier you can instead right-click Dorothy and choose Open.)
  3. Alternatively, in Terminal run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Dorothy.app. This only removes the "downloaded from the internet" flag from this one app; run it only if the checksum below matched.
  4. When Dorothy first stores your sign-in, macOS may ask for Keychain access. Choose Always Allow.

Good to know

What this early build does and does not do yet.

  • Works with your existing Dorothy account. Your memory and plan are the same as in the browser.
  • Subscriptions and billing open in your web browser; afterwards the page offers to take you back to the app.
  • "Continue with Google" is not available in the desktop app yet. Sign in with your username and password.
  • Updates are manual for now: download the new version from this page.
  • If Dorothy ever hits an unexpected error, it saves a local log you can open from the Help menu (Show Crash Logs). Nothing is sent to us automatically.

Prefer the browser? Dorothy works there too. Contact us with feedback on the desktop app.
